Milwaukee 48-00-4713 9" 10 TPI Ice Hardened The Torch Sawzall Blades, (5 Pack) Ice Hardened blades are cryogenically treated to minimize soft metal (austenite) and create more hard metal (martensite). The result is a metal cutting blade that is more consistently hard throughout, for up to 50% longer life than standard blades. A unique combination of relief angles forms a radius on the back of the tooth that reduces stress build-up during cutting and substantially extends blade life. Precision forming process creates sharper teeth for fast cutting. A thicker, more rigid blade body resists fracturing and bending for maximum durability. The 1" tall blade body reduces blade twisting for straighter, more accurate cuts. Matrix II bi-metal teeth for greater durability. The Milwaukee 48-00-4091 Ice Edge Sawzall blade is specifically designed to handle the toughest metal-cutting applications for HVAC, automotive, plumbing, ship building, salvage and more. This next-generation blade features a bi-metal construction with 8-percent cobalt, making the Ice Edge a flexible alternative to other reciprocating blades.

The added flexibility prevents shock, fatigue, and shattering for safer use and cleaner cuts, while a completely redesigned blade optimizes metal cutting with precision-ground teeth and a radiused back face that increases tooth strength. The end result is faster cuts and up to 50-percent longer blade life than standard Sawzall blades. Another exceptional feature of the Ice Edge blades is the positive rake on the cutting edges. This design removes chips aggressively, while deeper gullets help keep the cut clear and cool to ensure optimal heat resistance.
Milwaukee's cryogenic heat-treat process induces a permanent change in the microstructure of the high-speed steel cutting edge, and because it penetrates to the full depth of the blade, this treatment improves the hardness, wear-resistance, and dimensional stability of the blade.
Advantages over TiN (Titanium) Blades
- Cryogenic heat treatment offers a permanent change to blade properties: With TiN coating, the wear rate is accelerated by high temperatures generated during cutting. The Ice Edge blades are less susceptible to high-temperature damage than TiN blades.
- Ice Edge blades receive uniform treatment: TiN coatings are deposited by the PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) method. PVD does not produce a strong bond with the HSS edge wire since PVD is a low-temperature process. Thus, TiN coating easily wears out. It is also difficult to get the uniform coating on the teeth with the PVD process--given the complexity and small size of the teeth--so the full benefit of the TiN coating is not realized on reciprocating blades. Unlike TiN coating processes, the Ice Edge blade treatment results in a uniform, permanent change to the entire blade structure.
